History

rijksdaalder 1651In Bohemia (now the Czech Republic) in 1518, Count Schlick started to mint a silver coin called the Joachimstaler. The new currency became the standard for payments in Europe. In the Netherlands and Germany the name was degenerated to "daler" and later to "(rijks) daalder".

The image on the right shows a "rijksdaalder" of 1651. The British also adopted the taler and changed the spelling to "dollar", the forerunner of the U.S. dollar. In the centuries that followed, the area where the taler was used constantly increased in size. In 1857, the coin became the official currency in cities such as Rome, London, Paris, Brussels and Bombay. A member of our Corporate Advisory Board, who recently passed away, even used taler coins in the 70's when he was working for Shell in the Middle East.

The name Talergroup emphasizes our goal to set a standard in the field of independent global wealth management
