Philosophy

The philosophy of Talergroup is based on the approach of David Swensen, CIO of the Yale Endowment and pioneer of multi-asset class and multi-manager investing. Mr Swensen has achieved a 16% compound return over fifteen years, with not one year of negative returns, through multi-asset class and multi-manager investing.

Extensive research has shown that investment returns are generated from strategic asset allocation, market timing and security selection.

Strategic asset allocation explains 90% of the variation in quarterly returns. Asset allocation is ten times more important than market timing and security selection combined.

In addition, the philosophy of Talergroup is also based on the findings of Harry Markowitz, Nobel prize winner. To quote Markowitz: ‘Diversification is the only free lunch’.

This theory is implemented in the investment approach at Talergroup. Diversification through multi-asset and multi-manager investing enhances portfolio returns and supports the objective of capital preservation and controlled draw downs.

A high proportion of any investment portfolio in alternative asset classes can substantially enhance the portfolio returns without increasing risk.
