Philip van den Berg (1958)
Partner
Philip graduated cum laude in 1985 with a degree in economics from the University of Amsterdam and has 20 years experience in the European financial markets. During his career on the sell-side he has held various positions in research as investment analyst and director of research. He spent most of his sell-side career at Goldman Sachs in London where he was a founding member of the European research department and a member of its investment policy committee. In 1997 Philip made the transition to the buy-side when he co-founded Olympus Capital Management, one of the first European hedge funds (long/short equity)

Philip is one of the two managers of the Taler Funds. He is responsible for asset allocation, manager selection and risk management.

Marc Bressers (1968)
Partner
Marc has a background in Business Economics (Tilburg University) and obtained a degree as Certified European Financial Analyst (CEFA). He started his career at an independent private wealth company in the Netherlands as a portfolio manager and investment committee member. In 2002, he founded the investment consulting practice of Ernst & Young in the Netherlands, servicing high net worth individuals and institutional clients. Over the last few years, Marc developed an asset allocation model, risk management tools, asset monitoring and reporting software and built a database of first-tier investment products.

Marc is responsible for the Investment Consulting service within Talergroup.

Ron Westdorp (1962)
Partner
Ron graduated in 1983 with a degree in Business Economics at the HEAO in Alkmaar and he obtained a degree as Certified European Financial Analyst (CEFA) in 1995. He started his career at a leading independent private wealth company in the Netherlands as a portfolio manager. Following this he founded the institutional derivatives desk at ING Bank which became the leader in the Dutch market. After this he joined Credit Suisse in Amsterdam and in 1994 joined Goldman Sachs in London in the role of institutional investment advisor. After over 8 years at Goldman Sachs, he joined in 2003 GLG Partners, Europe’s leading hedge fund group, where he became part of the Asset Allocation Group.

Ron is one of the two managers of the Taler Funds. He is responsible for asset allocation, manager selection and risk management.

Julius de Kempenaer (1963)
Quantitative Strategy
Julius finished an economics study at the Royal Military Academy in Breda (1987). After several postings as an economics officer for the Royal Netherlands Air Force Julius moved to the financial sector in 1990. Initially as a portfolio manager for Equity & Law Life Insurance (AXA). Most of his experience however is as a technical-/quantitative analyst for Robeco group, Rabobank International and most recently Kempen & Co.

Within the Talergroup Julius is active in the development and maintenance of the quantitative strategy and asset allocation models which are used in the management of the Taler funds and the Investment Consultancy service. Julius also produces specific technical/quantitative research for a select number of clients.

Wessel Marquering (1970)
Quantitative Research
Wessel graduated cum laude in 1995 with a degree in Econometrics from Tilburg University and holds a Ph.D. in Financial Economics which he received in 2001 at the Catholic University of Leuven on the topic “Modeling and Forecasting Stock Market Returns and Volatility”. Between 2001 and 2006 he was assistant professor at the RSM Erasmus University and published articles in many well-respected journals, like the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, the Journal of Banking and Finance and the Journal of Financial Econometrics. Wessel has working experience as Chief Quantitative Analyst for a hedge fund between 2006 and 2007, being responsible for model development and risk management. He has completed several consulting projects over the last couple of years and since 2007 he is CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst) charter holder.

Wessel works on the quantitative development and optimization of the multi-asset allocation models of the Taler funds based on results of latest research, and is responsible for the risk management of the products within the Talergroup.

Andrew Ellis (1964)
Operations Management
Andrew is a qualified aircraft systems engineer, spending 17 years working for the BAe. Systems Military Group. Career progression led him through a Systems design, Project management and Operations Management path, gaining qualifications in Operational/Project Management through Hull University. The last four years have been dedicated to a financial and accountancy role, developing business tools and strategies within the Offshore Management Sector.

Toby Barnes (1969)
Operations
Toby graduated in 1994 from Aston University Business School with a degree in Human Psychology. After graduating, he worked for six years in the telecoms industry at Telewest and MCI in finance, planning and analysis both in London and Madrid.
Since then, he moved into accountancy and finance, working both in Gibraltar and the UK. Most recently Toby worked at Cambridge University. Throughout his career, Toby has been involved in developing data analysis methods, relational databases and office automation.

At Taler Asset Management Toby is, amongst other things, primarily responsible for back office administration.

Robin Schouten (1982)
Investment Consultant
Robin graduated in 2005 with a degree in Business Administration from Erasmus University Rotterdam. He is currently studying to obtain the title of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). After graduating, Robin worked at Commenda Family Office. There he implemented an asset monitoring system which is used to create the investment reports of the Investment Consulting clients.

As an Investment Consultant, Robin analyses investment products, monitors investment portfolios and is involved in the asset allocation process.
